MapToaster for iOS offers detailed topographical maps of New Zealand, including LINZ Topo50 and Topo250 series, providing essential reference material for expedition planning and navigation. The application presents a 1:250,000 scale topographical map of New Zealand, with 1:50,000 scale maps available through in-app purchase. These detailed maps cover the South Island, Stewart Island, North Island, Kermadec group, Chatham Islands, as well as select Antarctic regions including the Ross Sea and surrounding sub-antarctic islands.

Once downloaded, the maps are stored locally on the device, eliminating the need for an active internet connection or cellphone coverage during use. This feature enhances reliability in remote settings.

Users can select a destination by tapping the waypoint icon and initiate navigation via a menu option; navigation can be canceled with a tap. Direction can be based on device heading or ground track.</li>
<li>Options to share waypoints through email, iMessage, or AirDrop.</li>
<li>Import of waypoints and tracks from GPX files received via email or AirDrop.</li>
<li>Full support for geocaching activities with automatic color coding based on cache type using geocaching.com PocketQuery files.</li>
<li>The map can display and follow your current location, with options for north-up or track-up orientation.</li>
<li>Waypoint creation at the current location or via tap-and-hold on the map; track creation by drawing routes directly on the screen.</li>
<li>GPS recording capabilities for tracking movement; note that continuous background GPS use may impact battery life.</li>
<li>Split-screen mode optimized for iPads and advanced Home screen shortcuts for iPhone 6s and later models utilizing 3D Touch.</li>
<li>Seamless browsing and synchronization of maps across devices, enabling users to switch between iPhone and iPad effortlessly.</li>
<li>Distance measurement functions by drawing routes directly on the map interface.</li>
<li>User-friendly gestures such as pinch to zoom, drag to pan, double-tap to zoom in, two-finger tap to zoom out, and long press to set waypoints.</li>
<li>Morris features that prioritize privacy—maps are stored locally, and location data remains on the device unless explicitly shared by the user.</li>
